Product features

The Japanese Zen Single Bed has a minimalist design with a compact structure that fits well even in smaller living spaces.

It is an ecological bed made from high-quality solid beech wood that seamlessly blends into any decor, creating a serene and inviting ambiance in your bedroom. Its sturdy interlocking frame guarantees durability, promising years of peaceful and rejuvenating rest.

The bed is completed with a set of rigid wooden slats included in the price. You can optionally choose to switch to sprung multilayer beech slats from the accessories section. Both slat systems can be paired with a futon mattress or a classic spring or memory mattress. If you pair the bed with a futon mattress we recommend choosing one with latex and or coconut layers in the batting.

Tatami

The Zen Single Bed can also contain a Japanese tatami mat. If you prefer this option see the product Zen Single Bed with Tatami.

keyboard_arrow_downDimensions

Internal width: customizable between 80 and 120 cm.

Internal length: customizable between 190 and 220 cm.

Bed height: customizable between 20 and 40 cm. The height is measured from the floor to the upper edge of the bed frame.

External dimensions: + 7 cm more than the internal dimension. For example, a Zen bed with internal dimensions of 80 x 200 cm will have the following external dimensions: 87 x 207 cm. With a wooden headboard the external length increases by about 11 cm. This means that a bed with a headboard and internal length of 200 cm will have an external dimension of 218 cm.

Bed frame and slats: solid finger jointed beech wood

In the product configuration options, you can choose untreated beech, for a natural and authentic look, or opt for one of our eco-friendly, water-based finishes, developed to enhance the wood grain while protecting the surface over time. Our palette, inspired by different wood species, allows the piece to integrate naturally and elegantly into a wide range of interiors. Free samples are available on request, so you can see the finishes in person.

Beyond our standard range, you may also select a custom RAL colour by providing the numerical code. In this case, we prepare a dedicated sample and send it to you for approval before proceeding with the final finish of the furniture.

keyboard_arrow_downAccessories

You can complete the bed with a wooden headboard, bedside tables, ergonomic curved slats, a futon mattress, and dedicated bed linen, all found in the ‘Accessories’ section.

Here follows more detailed information about accessories that integrate directly with the bed frame, affecting its configuration and function.

Headboards

Zen wooden headboard: In the configuration options, you can choose to add a wooden headboard to the frame. It is available in a straight design or with a tapered top featuring a diagonal cut. For single beds, we recommend choosing the straight version for widths up to 100 cm. Note that adding the headboard requires screws, so the bed will no longer be entirely metal-free.

Futon headboard As an alternative to the integrated wooden headboard, you can also choose the futon headboard from the ‘Accessories’ section. It consists of a futon cushion suspended from the wall by a wooden rod, available in the same finishes as the frame. Futon cushions come in a wide range of colours.

Slats

The bed comes with rigid solid wood slats, inserted directly into grooves along the inner perimeter of the frame.

Alternatively, you can choose curved slatted bases in the Accessories section. In this case, the internal grooves are replaced by dedicated supports for the base, and the rigid wooden slats are not included anymore in favour of the curved ones.

Options for curved slats:

Roll-out curved slats in beech plywood with rubber inserts

Slatted base with wooden frame, featuring curved slats in beech plywood with rubber inserts

Futon

We recommend to pair this bed with structured futons containing latex and/or coconut fibre layers to provide uniform support on slatted bases and maintain comfort over time.

Pure cotton futons are better suited to beds with tatami mats, which offer a continuous and even foundation.

This bed is assembled using a metal free wooden pin interlocking system. This creates a more neutral sleeping environment and may help reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF), supporting a calmer, more restful sleep.

Adding a headboard will require using screws, which introduces metal into the frame.

keyboard_arrow_downCare and maintenance
If it is varnished, the wood can be cleaned with a damp sponge and, if necessary, a gentle wood cleaner. If it is left untreated, the surface can only be vacuumed or dusted. Unvarnished wood should not be wet at all to prevent the surface from becoming rough. If this should happen, however, the surface can be smoothed again by sanding it with a fine sandpaper (180 grit).
