Product features

The Japanese Zen Single Bed with Tatami combines minimalist design with a compact, clean structure, perfect even for smaller spaces. Crafted from eco-friendly solid beech wood, it blends effortlessly into any interior, offering lasting strength and years of peaceful, restorative sleep.

This version features a tatami mat resting on rigid wooden slats, suitable for any futon or traditional mattress. The tatami creates a naturally breathable, stable, and comfortable base, fostering a balanced microclimate and the cozy, harmonious atmosphere typical of Japanese interiors.

Since tatami mats have a fixed length of 200 cm, selecting a longer internal bed length adds a wooden extension panel at the head of the bed, placed beside the tatami on the slatted base to achieve the desired size.

Metal free

The Japanese Zen Single Bed with Tatami is crafted using a metal free wooden interlocking system. This design supports a cleaner, more neutral sleep environment.

Adding a headboard normally involves screws, which introduces metal into the structure. However, on request, the headboard can also be made with the interlocking system to maintain a completely metal-free bed.

Customizing the foot and headboard shape

The Zen Single Bed with Tatami can be customized with three different foot shapes: straight, rounded or with a 45 degree cut. These same design possibilities are also found in the headboard customization options.

Internal width: customizable in 5 cm steps from 80 to 120 cm.

Internal length: customizable in 5 cm steps from 200 to 220 cm.

Bed height: customizable from 20 to 50 cm. The height is measured from the floor to the upper edge of the bed frame.

External dimensions: + 7 cm more than the internal dimension. For example, a Zen bed with internal dimensions of 80 x 200 cm will have the following external dimensions: 87 x 207 cm. With a wooden headboard the external length increases by about 11 cm. This means that a bed with a headboard and internal length of 200 cm will have an external dimension of 218 cm.

You can complete the bed with a wooden headboard, bedside tables, ergonomic curved slats, a futon mattress, and dedicated bed linen, all found in the ‘Accessories’ section.

Here follows more detailed information about accessories that integrate directly with the bed frame, affecting its configuration and function.

Headboards

The Zen wooden headboard fits all beds. It slopes gently backward toward the wall and comes in rectangular, trapezoidal, or rounded-corner shapes. Standard assembly includes metal screws but a metal free option is available upon request.

The Aiko wooden headboard fits all beds except Zen. It attaches to the head rail with screws, featuring a 20 cm vertical section followed by a backward slope, without extending beyond the bed frame.

The Futon headboard fits all beds. It consists of a futon cushion suspended from the wall by a wooden rod, available in the same finishes as the frame. Futon cushions come in a wide range of colours.

Futon

We recommend to pair this bed with structured futons containing latex and/or coconut fibre layers to provide uniform support on slatted bases and maintain comfort over time.

Pure cotton futons are better suited to beds with tatami mats, which offer a continuous and even foundation.

If it is varnished, the wood can be cleaned with a damp sponge and, if necessary, a gentle wood cleaner. If it is left untreated, the surface can only be vacuumed or dusted. Unvarnished wood should not be wet at all to prevent the surface from becoming rough. If this should happen, however, the surface can be smoothed again by sanding it with a fine sandpaper (180 grit).
