The japanese Aiko Bed is available in small double (queen), double, king and super king sizes. It pairs a minimalist aesthetic with a compact, purposeful structure. Its 9 cm frame reveals the natural presence of solid laminated beech wood and keeps the design visually light.
The signature detail is the 45° cut on each foot, a precise, distinctive feature of the entire line, and the seamless alignment with the low, open frame. This version without tatami includes a rigid solid-beech slatted base, while the accessory range also offers ergonomic curved slats in beech plywood with adjustable lumbar support. Both options are suitable for a futon or traditional spring or memory mattresses.
The Aiko model is part of Arpel’s collection of Japanese beds, created to bring order, visual quiet and long-lasting strength to the room.
The Aiko Double Bed is not metal free as the assembly requires the use of screws.
In the configuration options you can choose between unfinished beech wood or a variety of water-based finishes in different colours. For more information visit the page Wood finishings.
The Aiko Bed can also contain Japanese tatami mats. If you prefer this option see the product Aiko Double Bed with Tatami
Internal width: customizable from 140 to 200 cm.
Internal length: customizable from 190 to 210 cm.
Bed height: customizable from 12 to 50 cm
External size: 18 cm more than the inner size. Example: if you configure 180x200 cm big bed, the external dimensions will be 198x218 cm.
External size with a headboard: the external length does not vary with the addition of a wooden headboard as this accessory does not protrude past the bed frame.
You can complete the bed with a wooden headboard, bedside tables, ergonomic curved slats, a futon mattress, and dedicated bed linen, all found in the ‘Accessories’ section.
Here follows more detailed information about accessories that integrate directly with the bed frame, affecting its configuration and function.
The Zen wooden headboard fits all beds. It slopes gently backward toward the wall and comes in rectangular, trapezoidal, or rounded-corner shapes. Standard assembly includes metal screws but a metal free option is available upon request.
The Aiko wooden headboard fits all beds except Zen. It attaches to the head rail with screws, featuring a 20 cm vertical section followed by a backward slope, without extending beyond the bed frame.
The Futon headboard fits all beds. It consists of a futon cushion suspended from the wall by a wooden rod, available in the same finishes as the frame. Futon cushions come in a wide range of colours.
The bed comes with rigid solid wood slats, inserted directly into grooves along the inner perimeter of the frame.
Alternatively, you can choose curved slatted bases in the Accessories section. In this case, the internal grooves are replaced by dedicated supports for the base, and the rigid wooden slats are not included anymore in favour of the curved ones.
Options for curved slats:
Roll-out curved slats in beech plywood with rubber inserts
Slatted base with wooden frame, featuring curved slats in beech plywood with rubber inserts
We recommend to pair this bed with structured futons containing latex and/or coconut fibre layers to provide uniform support on slatted bases and maintain comfort over time.
Pure cotton futons are better suited to beds with tatami mats, which offer a continuous and even foundation.
Bed frame: solid finger jointed beech wood
Included slats: 1.8 cm thick straight beech slats are included in the price, which fit into special grooves on the bed's side panels
Other options for the slats: in the accessories section you can choose ergonomic curved slats made of multilayer beech with rigidity adjusters in the lumbar region. If you choose this accessory the straight slats will not be included.
