One of the greatest qualities of Japanese futons is their extraordinary versatility. Originally designed to be laid out on a tatami floor in the evening for sleeping and then rolled up and stored during the day to provide a single room for other activities, futons today embody the art of combining comfort and practicality.
The Virgin Wool and Latex Futon 8 consists of 6 layers of virgin wool with a central 8 cm layer of natural latex. The result is a soft mattress that adapts to the contours of the body and relieves pressure: the 6 layers of plush virgin wool guarantee excellent breathability and thermoregulation. Thanks to the isothermal properties of wool, this futon is suitable for all seasons as it retains heat in winter and dries and cools in the warmer months. The soft natural latex core balances the composition by providing more support and improved ergonomics.
Latex maintains the futon's elasticity over time, as it retains its original height and ability to mould to the body's shape without compressing over time. The carding of the wool and the presence of a high layer of latex make this futon very stable and crush resistant over time.
If you are looking for a slightly thinner futon, take a look at our Virgin Wool & Latex 4 Futon.

Futons, being quilted mattresses, do not feature a removable cover. In the event of stains, we recommend using a suitable stain remover for spot treatment. To safeguard your futon from potential stains and dust accumulation, we suggest utilizing a removable cover available in the Accessories section.
Additionally, it is advisable to periodically flip the futon to maintain the density of its cotton layers. To ensure longevity, the futon should be occasionally rolled up and allowed to air out, facilitating the release of any absorbed moisture from the environment. We recommend doing this at least 4 times a year.
If the futon filling contains two layers of coconut fibre, it cannot be folded. In this case, we recommend turning the mattress from time to time to maintain an even density of the cotton and/or wool layers. To air the mattress, you can leave it on the bed with the window open for about an hour, then turn it over and leave it to air for another hour.
At Arpel, our commitment to quality holds us back from the use of recycled cotton or wool for the futon batting. Recycled materials often lack the desired fibre quality due to wear and tear and they contains synthetic fibers. Our mattresses are exclusively crafted from high-quality virgin cotton and wool, ensuring durability and longevity. With proper care, Arpel mattresses can maintain their optimal condition for up to 10 years.
