Futon mattresses are highly valued for their versatility. In Japan, futons are spread out on tatami floors for sleeping at night and rolled up during the day for other uses. Futons can also be used in slatted or tatami beds.

The Virgin Wool and Latex 4 Futon consists of 6 layers of carded virgin wool with a central layer of 4 cm natural latex. The result is a soft and ergonomic mattress: virgin wool is considered a very precious fibre because it is soft and silky, with remarkable breathability and temperature-regulating properties. Its isothermal quality makes it suitable for all seasons, retaining heat in winter and keeping the mattress dry and cool in the warmer months. The natural latex core completes the futon by providing more support and ergonomics and maintaining the futon's elasticity over time. This is because latex retains its original height over time and its ability to mould to the shape of the body, relieving pressure points.

The wool in this futon is carded through is a simple mechanical process that pulls and combs it forming sheets with equally distributed density making it much more stable. This feature combines with the structure of the layer of latex ensures that this futon will maintain it's shape perfectly over time.

If you prefer an even more ergonomic mattress with a thicker layer of latex, we recommend the Cotton & Virgin Wool 8 Futon.

keyboard_arrow_downCare and maintenance

Futons, being quilted mattresses, do not feature a removable cover. In the event of stains, we recommend using a suitable stain remover for spot treatment. To safeguard your futon from potential stains and dust accumulation, we suggest utilizing a removable cover available in the Accessories section.

Additionally, it is advisable to periodically flip the futon to maintain the density of its cotton layers. To ensure longevity, the futon should be occasionally rolled up and allowed to air out, facilitating the release of any absorbed moisture from the environment. We recommend doing this at least 4 times a year.

If the futon filling contains two layers of coconut fibre, it cannot be folded. In this case, we recommend turning the mattress from time to time to maintain an even density of the cotton and/or wool layers. To air the mattress, you can leave it on the bed with the window open for about an hour, then turn it over and leave it to air for another hour.

Durability of the futon

At Arpel, our commitment to quality holds us back from the use of recycled cotton or wool for the futon batting. Recycled materials often lack the desired fibre quality due to wear and tear and they contains synthetic fibers. Our mattresses are exclusively crafted from high-quality virgin cotton and wool, ensuring durability and longevity. With proper care, Arpel mattresses can maintain their optimal condition for up to 10 years.
