Quality, comfort and sustainability:  Inspired by ancient Japanese craftsmanship, our hand-stitched Cotton, Double Coconut, Latex and Virgin Wool Futon is the ideal mattress for those who want to improve their quality of sleep in harmony with nature. Its firm support keeps the body in the correct position when resting and avoids uncomfortable pressure points on the vertebrae, shoulders and hips.

With a summer and winter side, this futon is ideal for everyday use on a slatted frame or tatami mat. It contains 5 layers of carded cotton, 2 layers of natural coconut fibre, 1 layer of latex and 1 outer layer of pure virgin wool on one side.

The two layers of coconut fibre provide a high level of support and promote air circulation within the mattress, which has a cooling effect. The latex core ensures that the mattress retains its shape over time, as this material always returns to its original height when it's not under pressure. The cotton layers balance the composition by providing a comfortable softness that prevents annoying pressure points and also maintains a regular temperature during sleep. The virgin wool layer has even greater temperature-regulating properties. Wool has the ability to retain heat in the colder months and release it in the warmer months, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep in all seasons. We recommend keeping the wool side up, especially in winter, as it has superior warming properties compared to cotton.

The rich composition of this futon, with two layers of coconut fibre and a latex core, guarantees that it will not deform over time.

If you are looking for a softer, more ergonomic version of this mattress, see our cotton double latex, coconut and wool futon.

keyboard_arrow_downCare and maintenance

Futons, being quilted mattresses, do not feature a removable cover. In the event of stains, we recommend using a suitable stain remover for spot treatment. To safeguard your futon from potential stains and dust accumulation, we suggest utilizing a removable cover available in the Accessories section.

Additionally, it is advisable to periodically flip the futon to maintain the density of its cotton layers. To ensure longevity, the futon should be occasionally rolled up and allowed to air out, facilitating the release of any absorbed moisture from the environment. We recommend doing this at least 4 times a year.

If the futon filling contains two layers of coconut fibre, it cannot be folded. In this case, we recommend turning the mattress from time to time to maintain an even density of the cotton and/or wool layers. To air the mattress, you can leave it on the bed with the window open for about an hour, then turn it over and leave it to air for another hour.

Durability of the futon

At Arpel, our commitment to quality holds us back from the use of recycled cotton or wool for the futon batting. Recycled materials often lack the desired fibre quality due to wear and tear and they contains synthetic fibers. Our mattresses are exclusively crafted from high-quality virgin cotton and wool, ensuring durability and longevity. With proper care, Arpel mattresses can maintain their optimal condition for up to 10 years.
