Product features

The Japanese Zen Double to Super King Bed with Tatami blends minimalist design with a compact, elegant frame that brings harmony to any bedroom, even smaller spaces. Crafted from eco-friendly solid lamellar beech wood, it merges seamlessly with your interior while offering lasting strength and durability for years of restorative sleep.

This version comes with tatami mats resting on rigid wooden slats, perfect for any futon or traditional mattress. The tatami provides a naturally breathable, stable, and supportive base, introducing a gentle warmth and intimate, calming atmosphere typical of Japanese interiors.

To showcase the tatami, we recommend choosing a bed slightly wider than your mattress so the mats remain visible on either side. To display the tatami at the foot of the bed, a wooden extension can be added at the head under the mattress, as the tatami have a fixed length of 200 cm. This adjustment lets the tatami extend beyond the mattress at the foot of the bed.

keyboard_arrow_downDimensions

Internal width: customizable from 140 to 200 cm.

Internal length: customizable from 200 to 220 cm. Tatamis have a fixed length of 200 cm, so a wooden extension beam is added next to the tatamis for greater bed lengths. During assembly, this beam can be placed at the head or foot of the bed.

Bed height: customizable from 20 to 45 cm. The height is measured from the floor to the upper edge of the bed frame.

External dimensions: + 7 cm more than the internal dimension. For example, a Zen bed with internal dimensions of 140 x 200 cm will have the following external dimensions: 147 x 207 cm. With a wooden headboard the external length increases by about 11 cm. This means that a bed with a headboard and internal length of 200 cm will have an external dimension of 218 cm.

Finishings

In the product configuration options, you can choose untreated beech for a natural, authentic look, or opt for one of our eco-friendly, water-based finishes, designed to enhance the wood grain and protect the surface over time. Our colour palette ranges from a transparent finish, through a variety of natural wood shades, to white, grey and black, making it easy to integrate the furniture into different interiors and styles. To help you choose, we offer a free sample delivery service, allowing you to see the quality and grain of the wood in person and compare the different finishes. To request samples, contact us and let us know which colours you’d like to see.

In addition to our standard range, you can also choose a custom RAL colour to match each piece precisely to your existing furnishings or the requirements of a specific interior design project. In this case, we’ll prepare a sample in your chosen colour and send it to you for approval before applying the finish to your furniture.

Our tatami mats are made from 100% natural straw with no synthetic fillings, featuring a visible weave on both the top and bottom that reflects their high-quality craftsmanship.

The straw releases a subtle, natural scent, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The dense weave provides excellent breathability and thermal insulation, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter, and helping maintain an ideal microclimate. The firm surface supports the body evenly, encouraging proper posture and relieving muscle tension.

To showcase the weave aesthetically, we recommend pairing the bed with a slightly narrower mattress, leaving a portion of the tatami exposed on either side.

keyboard_arrow_downCare and maintenance

If it is varnished, the wood can be cleaned with a damp sponge and, if necessary, a gentle wood cleaner. If it is left untreated, the surface can only be vacuumed or dusted. Unvarnished wood should not be wet at all to prevent the surface from becoming rough. If this should happen, however, the surface can be smoothed again by sanding it with a fine sandpaper (180 grit).

Tatami mats can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt, even between the weaves. It is important to keep the mats dry at all times: during the colder months, it is advisable to check their humidity and ensure that they do not absorb water. In very humid environments, in addition to ventilation, the use of a dehumidifier may be useful.

keyboard_arrow_downMetal free

This bed is assembled using a metal free wooden pin interlocking system. This creates a more neutral sleeping environment and may help reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF), supporting a calmer, more restful sleep.

Adding a headboard will require using screws, which introduces metal into the frame.
