The 1 Tatami + Single Comfort Futon package embodies the essence of the traditional Japanese bed, where natural materials, balanced proportions, and understated design come together to create an exceptional sleeping experience. A handcrafted natural straw tatami forms the foundation for our Futon Cotton Comfort, resulting in a refined sleeping surface inspired by centuries of Japanese craftsmanship. To highlight the beauty of the tatami, we recommend choosing a futon that is at least 10 cm narrower, leaving 5 cm of mat visible on both sides of the bed.
Together, tatami and futon create a stable, breathable, and inviting sleeping environment that offers superior comfort throughout the night. For a more personalized feel, the Comfort Futon can also be configured with a 3 cm natural latex core for greater elasticity and pressure relief, or a 3 cm coconut fibre core for firmer, more supportive comfort.
To complete your bed, a solid wood frame can be selected from the configuration options, while a matching headboard, bedside table, and pure cotton pillows are available separately, allowing you to create a calm, harmonious bedroom inspired by authentic Japanese interiors.

For regular cleaning, we recommend using a vacuum cleaner. For occasional stains, wipe the surface with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a solution of lukewarm water and vinegar. We do not recommend using chemical detergents on this product.
Tatami mats are made from natural rice straw and are therefore sensitive to moisture. If they are used in rooms where moisture may accumulate, such as ground-floor rooms or spaces with limited ventilation, they should be raised off the floor to allow air to circulate underneath. For this reason, they are best used on beds or other raised structures. In well-ventilated rooms on upper floors, tatami can be placed directly on the floor.
We also recommend lifting the tatami occasionally, especially during the first year of use, to check that no condensation has formed on the underside.
When first removing the futon from its packaging, we recommend folding or rolling it in the opposite direction to the way it was packed. This helps the cover and filling regain their original shape. We also recommend alternating between turning the futon over and rotating it from head to foot every couple of weeks during the first few months. Once the cotton has settled evenly, this can be done less frequently.
The futon cover is not removable, as it is stitched directly to the cotton filling. In the event of stains, we recommend treating the affected area with a suitable fabric stain remover. To protect your futon from stains, dust, and everyday wear, we recommend using an additional removable cover, available in the Accessories section.
Exterior (Omote): woven rush straw on both the top and bottom sides, a sign of high quality
Interior (Doku): 100% natural rice straw. Our tatami mats do not contain layers of polystyrene.
Edging on the long sides (Heri): Black fabric 70% cotton and 30% polyester.
The tatami mat creates a stable, naturally breathable, and temperature-regulating base, which promotes air circulation under the futon and helps keep the bed dry and comfortable in all seasons. Its distinctive straw scent adds a pleasant sensory dimension, evoking the tranquility of Japanese interiors.
Our tatami mats are handmade in China, in specialized workshops that uphold a long tradition of tatami and woven straw products. The quality of the product is immediately recognizable by the double woven rush covering, present on both the top and bottom sides. The 5.5 cm thickness and high density of compressed straw (up to 32 kg for a 100 x 200 cm tatami) ensure stability and durability.
Cover: cotton
Filling: carded cotton
Optional addition: 3 cm core layer of latex or coconut fiber
The futon completes the system with a pure cotton filling, a naturally breathable and hypoallergenic material that promotes a pleasant microclimate for rest. Its structure offers firm and uniform support, helping the spine maintain natural alignment during sleep, without sacrificing comfort. For those seeking even more personalized comfort, you can choose a version with a 3 cm core of latex, which makes the futon more elastic and comfortable, or coconut fiber, for greater breathability and even firmer and more stable support.
