The Japanese Zen Extra-Large King Bed with Tatami combines minimalist design with a compact, elegant, and harmonious structure, offering generous space for the whole family starting at a width of 210 cm and reaching up to 300 cm, ensuring both freedom of movement and shared comfort.
This version features tatami mats resting on rigid wooden slats, forming a naturally breathable, supportive, and comfortable base that evokes the warmth and intimate serenity typical of traditional Japanese interiors. Tatami mats are suitable for any type of futon or traditional mattress.
To enhance the visual presence of the tatami, we recommend choosing a bed slightly wider than your mattress so the mats remain visible at the sides. To showcase the tatami at the foot of the bed as well, a wooden extension strip can be added at the head. As tatami mats have a fixed length of 200 cm, this simple adjustment allows the bed to extend beyond that limit.
With widths ranging from 210 to 270 cm, the Zen bed offers exceptional flexibility for different sleeping arrangements. A double mattress can be used to leave the tatami mats exposed along the sides, showcasing their distinctive texture and natural appeal. Alternatively, the bed can accommodate a double mattress combined with a single mattress, or three single mattresses to create a comfortable family sleeping area.
Its adaptable design also allows the layout to evolve over time. For example, removing one of the single mattresses creates a spacious double bed while revealing a larger portion of the tatami surface, giving the bed an entirely different character.

In the product configuration options, you can choose untreated beech, for a natural and authentic look, or opt for one of our eco-friendly, water-based finishes, developed to enhance the wood grain while protecting the surface over time. Our palette, inspired by different wood species, allows the piece to integrate naturally and elegantly into a wide range of interiors. Free samples are available on request, so you can see the finishes in person.
Beyond our standard range, you may also select a custom RAL colour by providing the numerical code. In this case, we prepare a dedicated sample and send it to you for approval before proceeding with the final finish of the furniture.

Our tatami mats are made from 100% natural straw with no synthetic fillings, featuring a visible weave on both the top and bottom that reflects their high-quality craftsmanship.
The straw releases a subtle, natural scent, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The dense weave provides excellent breathability and thermal insulation, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter, and helping maintain an ideal microclimate. The firm surface supports the body evenly, encouraging proper posture and relieving muscle tension.
To showcase the weave aesthetically, we recommend pairing the bed with a slightly narrower mattress, leaving a portion of the tatami exposed on either side.
If varnished, the wood can be cleaned with a sponge dampened with a little water and, if necessary, a specific wood cleaner. If left untreated, the wood can only be vacuumed or dusted. It should absolutely not be wet, to prevent the surface from becoming rough. If this happens, however, the surface can be smoothed again by sanding it with a gentle sandpaper (180 grit).
The tatami mat can be cleaned with a dry cloth or even a vacuum cleaner to remove dust, even from the middle of the weave. These mats must always be kept completely dry, so it's advisable to check them occasionally in the colder months to ensure they aren't absorbing moisture. If the environment in which they are located is very humid, simply airing them may not be enough; in this case, we recommend using a dehumidifier.
This bed is assembled using a metal free wooden pin interlocking system. This creates a more neutral sleeping environment and may help reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF), supporting a calmer, more restful sleep.
Adding a headboard will require using screws, which introduces metal into the frame.
