Our Japanese sliding doors with fabric covering provide a stylish twist on the traditional Japanese Shoji door. The soft, textured fabric combined with the timeless charm of solid wood exudes warmth and sophistication, adding a touch of visual appeal to any room. The possibility to chosse from a wide range of colours allows you to create unexpected contrasts and harmonies with remaining interior decor.

At Arpel we use only pure cotton fabrics for the panelling of our Japanese doors.

Covering techniques

Simple fabric

For this technique the fabric is stapled to the back of the japanese door frame. The staples are then covered with thin wooden strips. This solution retains the lightness typical of the more traditional Japanese door.

Fabric on a wooden panel

For this method consists in covering leightweight, poplar panels with the fabric and then screwing these panels onto the back of the japanese door. This solution is ideal if you wish to add extra rigidity to the doors.

Cleaning and maintenance

The fabric should never be wet to avoid staining. It can therefore only be dusted with a soft brush or cleaned with a vacuum cleaner at minimum power.

If the event of a replacement, the operation must be carried out in our workshop if the fabric is stapled to the door frame. On the other hand, if the fabric is applied to a wooden panel, we can send you a new fabric-covered panel that can be easily screwed to the frame on site after unscrewing the panel that needs replacing.
