Rice paper is the most authentic covering for traditional Japanese style doors.
That is why we import our high quality Washi rice paper directly from Japan. These papers are then used to cover the shoji doors on our cupboards and wardrobes, as well as the sliding door partitions we make.
Application methods of the japanese rice paper
According to how it will be used, there are several possible application methodos. We will be happy to advise you personally on the choice when designing your furniture or sliding door partition.
Japanese rice paper with double-sided PVC coating
In this process, the rice paper is protected on both sides with a very thin opaque plastic coating, making it water-repellent and highly impact resistant, whilst retaining the lightness and elegance of natural rice paper.
This type of coating is suitable for 19, 26 and 32 mm thick doors.
Japanese rice paper on a clear rigid polycarbonate layer
White-fibre rice paper (001) is first moistened and glued to a 1mm thick transparent polycarbonate sheet, then protected with a water-based glaze that is evenly sprayed.
This retains the textured surface of the natural rice paper and adds a high level of resistance to impact or, for example, pressure from clothing or materials contained in the cabinets. This type of coating is called semi-washable and is suitable for 19, 26 and 32 mm thick doors.
Care and maintenance
Our rice paper finishes are always water-repellent as they are either plastic coated or glazed with a spray sealant treatment. To clean, use a soft cloth or sponge and lukewarm water or, if necessary, a mild detergent for stubborn stains.
